With the recent advancement in medical knowledge and technology, contemporary healthcare is characterised by specialisations. Experts from different areas of care carry out specialised examinations, treatment or counselling, all of which is provided in different settings and environments. In this module, you are going to learn about the different types of hospital wards, their purpose and characteristics, and about healthcare specialisations, i.e. various healthcare professionals who comprise the multi-disciplinary team providing complex patient care. Just as there are several medical specialisations, there are nursing specialisations with specific requirements in knowledge, skills and approach. Most of the specialties work together, combine and overlap with differences in each country. In this module, you will develop your vocabulary, listening skills and ability to communicate with colleagues and patients about the most common specialisations and ward specifics.
